More Work On The Barn Quilt

Pressing the tape with a seam roller

Here is part of the process of the making of our barn quilt. The design was first worked out on graph paper. We found the drywall square perfect for laying out a grid to work from and a washable marker kept our workspace neat.

We are really happy to announce dates for this workshop. Because each participant needs space for a design wall we are limited to six people per session. We did this once in November and it went very well. We are announcing two more dates here. A third session has already sold out. Further information is in the attached PDF file.

Barn Quilt

We've begun work on a barn quilt. What's a barn quilt you say? Basically it is a large quilt block painted on a piece of wood and mounted on a barn or other structure. We have a large blank space on the side of the studio facing the road and have been thinking for some time that it would be an ideal spot for a barn quilt. Our barn quilt will be 4' x 4'. We started with two coats of a good quality primer on both sides and the edges.

We are going to be using 3 colours for this project. The background is a light beige. We painted the entire board beige believing that the darker colours will cover this easily.

I took a workshop on this last spring. I was reasonably pleased with the outcome and entered my quilt in a show where it won a first place. It has since been hanging in a place of honour in the studio and has garnered much interest.

By popular demand, we will soon be offering a small class based on this pattern.

Great Time With Family & Friends

Happy New Year everyone!

We are back to business after a very relaxing holiday visiting with family and friends. It was nice to have some time off but now we are looking forward to some exciting projects for the new year.

I am going to the MPQ retreat at South Beach from Thursday to Saturday this week, but Geoffrey and Chewy will be around if you need anything from the shop.

We have lots of new supplies in and more on the way so drop in and see us when you can.

Making perogies for Christmas dinner, yum.
